What is: Anagama Firing

Some of you might not know yet, but in this lifetime, I am also a potter (among other hats I am wearing). [me stoking the anagama kiln with wood as fuel] [schooling time, learning how to throw 'seasons" tea bowl for tea ceremony] I sometimes hand built pieces that I made out of clay and sometime I throw them on an electric wheel. To throw the clay means to form a piece using an electric wheel or sometimes just a plain old kick wheel (old school). If I have to explain the whole process of ceramic making, I might end up writing a book out of it. So to simplify and just stick to the title of the post; I will focus on Anagama wood firing. Idemitsu Museum of Arts: the ceramics collection

Located at 9F Teigeki Building 3-1-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda City, Tokyo -- The Idemitsu Museum of Arts was opened in 1966 as an exhibition hall for the Idemitsu Collection. The building is located on the 9th floor of the Imperial Theater Building looking down over the beautiful Imperial Garden in Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. The museum is designed to incorporate the Japanese spirit of welcome in the setting of the modern building and invites visitors to enjoy the artworks in comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Special exhibitions are held about six times a year, with themed exhibitions of selected works from the Idemitsu Collection of Japanese painting and calligraphy, and East Asian ceramics. The unique feature of the Museum is the Sherd Room where fragments of pottery collected from kilns around Asia and Egypt (Fustat site, Cairo) are displayed. The idea behind: The Wind collection

When I named one of my planter’s collections as “The Wind” collection; you all might think ‘the wind has no shape!’ Au contraire my friend! Yes the wind has shapes; it blows in many shapes a space can contain. I am not speaking scientifically; I am merely using my imagination. Yes, once again I have thoughts and I love to spill my thoughts into clay. Back in 2014, I have travelled a whole month in India; and Jaisalmer –including the Thar dessert– is one of the main destinations I have to visit, it was in my ‘have to list”. And yes, the wind proved that it has a shape. There you go, here are some images… The wind can whisper a secret desire and breezes wherever it travels, feel and live to tell its story!
